Droughtroot
Description
The Droughtroot, a rare desert flora, is distinguished by its large, bulbous root system and spiky, cactus-like appearance. Standing approximately 3 feet tall, it boasts a thick, waxy skin designed to prevent water loss. This plant is a common sight in arid regions, where it thrives amidst the harsh, dry conditions.
Properties
The Droughtroot possesses an extraordinary ability to absorb all moisture in its vicinity. Any creature that comes within 10 feet of the plant starts to feel a gradual drain on their body’s water content. For every hour spent within this range, the creature must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or suffer the effects of dehydration, as if they had gone a day without water.
Cultivation
Cultivation of the Droughtroot requires specific conditions found only in desert environments. The plant prefers sandy soil and requires very little watering. In fact, overwatering can harm the plant. The cactus contains a salty liquid that can be harvested.
Applications
The juice of the Droughtroot cactus can be squeezed out and then boiled, adding ash, dead vegetation, and an animal that died from dehydration. When poured on sand, it effectively casts control weather. Within a few hours, a storm appears.
