Dreamthief
Description
The Dreamthief, a nocturnal vine, flourishes in the deep forests and jungles. It is characterized by long, slender vines adorned with soft, velvety leaves. The plant can grow up to 20 feet long, often winding around trees or rocks. Upon close observation, the vines appear to move as if they are a living organism.
Properties
The Dreamthief possesses the unique ability to sense the presence of sleeping creatures. When a creature falls asleep within 30 feet of the plant, the vine gently wraps itself around the creature, effectively grappling it. The vine does not constrict or harm the creature but holds it in place until it wakes up. The creature can use its action to make a DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check to free itself. Additionally, if a full night’s rest is completed while grappled by the vines, a creature loses a small, unnoticeable memory from their childhood.
Cultivation
Cultivation of the Dreamthief requires a shady spot with plenty of vertical space for the vine to climb. The plant prefers moist soil and requires regular watering. The vine can be harvested by carefully cutting it near the base.
Applications
The vine of the Dreamthief has multiple uses when squeezed for its juices. These juices can be mixed with a sample of a creature, such as blood, hair, or skin. When consumed and both the consumer and the sampled creature fall asleep, they enter the sampled creature’s dreams. While in these dreams, you may control minor aspects like location, objects, people etc., by making a Charisma saving throw against the creature’s saving throw. If you are killed in this dream state by the dreaming creature, you take 5d10 psychic damage in the real world and wake up. Otherwise, the dream ends when either the dreaming creature or consumer is woken up by someone not in the dream.
