Shardblossom

Description

The Shardblossom, a plant of icy beauty, resembles a cluster of ice shards sprouting from the
frosty earth. It thrives in cold environments, and when the temperature dips low enough, it yields delicate flowers that exude a metallic fragrance. These hardy plants boast a lifespan of up to 300 years, gracing the world with their blooms once every 75 years.

Properties

The Shardblossom exerts a chilling influence on its immediate surroundings. Any creature
lacking resistance to cold damage that ventures within 5 feet of a Shardblossom flower finds its speed halved. This effect does not accumulate with multiple Shardblossom flowers in proximity. Furthermore, food stored near a Shardblossom enjoys an extended shelf life due to the plant’s preservative properties.

Cultivation

Transplanting a Shardblossom to an appropriate pot is relatively straightforward, but
propagation poses a greater challenge due to the plant’s specific blooming conditions. The Shardblossom requires monthly watering; without it, the plant begins to lose its frosty properties and wilts. The petals of a blooming Shardblossom can be harvested for later use, but picking the plant itself causes it to lose its chilling effect.

Applications

The Shardblossom finds use in various magical and alchemical applications. Its most basic use is food preservation, but a blooming Shardblossom offers more potent benefits. For instance, mixing Shardblossom petals with blueberries and white dragon blood yields a magical cream that bestows cold damage resistance when applied to the skin. A single flower produces enough cream for 30 days of use. Alternatively, an alchemist can create a special paste by combining Shardblossom petals with diamonds worth 100 gp and crumbs of Goliath skin. When smeared on a weapon, this paste imparts a frosty edge; for one minute, any creature struck by the weapon loses any resistance to cold damage it may have.
