Description

The Necrospore Mushroom, a lethal fungus, flourishes in areas saturated with necrotic energy. These locales often encompass graveyards or sites of significant death. The mushroom’s cap, varying in hue from dark purple to black, measures between 6 to 12 inches in diameter. The cap’s underside houses gills that, when disturbed, emit a cloud of necrotic spores.

Properties

The Necrospore Mushroom possesses a deadly defense mechanism. When a creature approaches within 5 feet, it discharges a cloud of necrotic spores spanning a 10-foot radius. Any creature commencing its turn within this area must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or suffer 1d6 necrotic damage. This damage also diminishes their maximum hit points until they complete a long rest. A successful save results in half damage without any reduction in maximum hit points. If a creature’s hit points reach 0 due to this effect, they fall unconscious and must start making death saving throws.

Cultivation

The Necrospore Mushroom reproduces by exterminating living organisms and sprouting from their remains. Harvesting these mushrooms necessitates protective gear to prevent inhalation of the necrotic spores. Furthermore, the mushroom feeds on life force and requires regular feeding with small creatures or fresh meat to retain its necrotic properties.

Applications

Consuming the mushroom’s cap bestows the consumer with the ability to exhale necrotic energy in a 15-foot cone. Each creature within this area must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take 5d6 necrotic damage, or half as much on a successful save. However, this power comes at a cost - the consumer’s maximum hit points are reduced by half the damage dealt until they finish a long rest. Additionally, these mushrooms can be brewed into an ale known as “Sunny”. Drinking this ale provides resistance to necrotic damage for 1 hour but reduces maximum hit points by 1d4 until they finish a long rest.
