Crying Tooter
Description
The Crying Tooter, a large floral species, thrives in fields adjacent to bodies of water such as rivers or lakes. It can be found in diverse environments including forests, plains, and marshes. The flower exhibits a vibrant violet hue and emits a ginger-like fragrance. It secretes a slimy liquid that drips from its petals and accumulates around its base.
Properties
The slimy liquid secreted by the Crying Tooter is harmless unless it comes into contact with an eye. In such cases, the affected creature is blinded for 1 minute and succumbs to uncontrollable crying. The creature can use an action to wipe the liquid off its eye, ending the blindness, but its vision remains impaired by the tears. For the remaining duration of the effect, the creature’s clear vision extends only up to 15 feet.
Cultivation
The slimy liquid secreted by the Crying Tooter contains its seeds, which require immersion in water for germination, with the liquid serving as a protective coating until they sprout. Post-sprouting care for a Crying Tooter is relatively simple, but it requires ample space for growth and can be quite messy when fully grown. A picked flower ceases to produce any more liquid, and the liquid dissolves within 3 days unless stored in a sealed container such as a vial or jar. Harvesting the liquid necessitates safety goggles and gloves to prevent eye contact.
Applications
The slimy liquid from a Crying Tooter can be processed into eye drops that cure temporary blindness and moisturize the eyes. This involves removing the seeds from the liquid, washing the slime multiple times, and distilling it into a clear solution. The seeds can be fermented into a liquor known as Crying Fisherman, which has a potent taste that induces watery eyes but is harmless if prepared correctly.
