Boomcicle
Description
The Boomcicle, a diminutive bush native to tundra regions, is known for its translucent berries that dangle from its branches. Its leaves exhibit a bluish or whitish hue, giving the impression of being dusted with snow. The berries possess explosive properties and can inflict frost damage on nearby entities. Certain goliaths and giants have been known to consume the berries or
brew them into a potent ale.
Properties
Crushing or destroying a Boomcicle berry triggers an explosion within a 5-foot radius. Each
creature within this area must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or suffer 1d4 cold damage, with a successful save halving the damage. The explosion can set off a chain reaction with other berries on the same bush, potentially causing up to 10d4 cold damage.
Cultivation
The Boomcicle bush thrives in consistently cold temperatures and requires monthly watering to
survive and bear fruit. It can be replanted in an appropriate container, but careful handling is necessary to prevent premature detonation of the berries. A Boomcicle bush yields 2 pounds of berries every six months, which can be harvested with a DC 16 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check for every 10 berries. However, if one berry is crushed during the harvesting process, all the berries on the bush explode.
Applications
Dried Boomcicle berries can be safely consumed, offering a refreshing and chilly sensation. The berries can also be fermented into an intensely cold and flavorful ale that inflicts 1d4 cold damage per sip unless the drinker succeeds on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw. Dried Boomcicle leaves can be crushed and mixed with water and yeti saliva to create a special concoction that enhances the Armor of Agathys spell. When used as a spell component, this concoction allows the spell to be cast at one level higher than the slot used, up to a maximum of 9th level. The leaves are consumed upon use.
