Infernal Rose

Description

The Infernal Rose, a rare and captivating bloom, radiates an ethereal inner flame. Its petals
exhibit a spectrum of hues from deep purple to azure, while its stem and thorns are as black as the abyss. Native to arid and torrid environments such as deserts, savannas, or even the Nine Hells, the first Infernal Roses are said to be the creation of Asmodeus, the Lord of the Nine Hells, as a token of affection for his consort Bensozia. These roses stand as a testament to their enduring love and dominion, as well as their inherent cruelty and malevolence.

Properties

The bloom emanates a constant warmth within a 5-foot radius that is comforting but not harmful
to living beings. It serves as a source of warmth during frigid nights or a beacon in the darkness.

Cultivation

Cultivating an Infernal Rose outside its natural habitat is a task of great difficulty. It demands
meticulous care such as pruning and repotting, along with fresh ashes to enrich its soil. A plucked flower retains its warmth for 8 hours before it withers and perishes. To cultivate an Infernal Rose, one requires a seed or cutting from an existing plant and a pot or patch of soil that can endure high temperatures like clay or stone. The seed or cutting must be planted in the soil
and covered with a thin layer of ashes. The plant requires watering every two days with cold water which results in steam and accelerates growth. It also requires exposure to sunlight for at least 4 hours daily or magical light such as from a continual flame spell. After one month of growth, the Infernal Rose blooms, producing one flower per plant that lasts for one week before falling off.

Applications

The most prevalent use of the Infernal Rose is in brewing a unique tea by steeping fresh petals
in cold water. The water heats up due to the petals’ inherent warmth and provides warmth for an hour. The consumer also gains resistance to cold damage for 1 hour. Other uses include decoration, perfume, or alchemy, although these are less common and carry more risk due to the potential attraction of fiends or fire-based creatures.
